サーフボードのお手入れ Maintenance of surfing board

海から上がって、ボードを皆さんどうしていますか。そのままケースに収納して、次回海に行くまで、そのままにしていませんか。これはあまりお勧めできません。ボードは海から上がった時や、帰宅した時に、必ず真水で塩と砂、汚れをよく落しましょう。塩分は、ボードの表面を覆う樹脂を黄色く変色させ、劣化の原因になります。なにかでこすったりする必要はなく、水をまんべんなくかけながら、手で優しくなでる様にすれば充分です。ただし、決してお湯をかけないようにして下さい。熱は、ボードのガラスクロスの剥離を招いてしまいますし、ワックスも軟らかくなってしまい、せっかく作ったつぶつぶがつぶれてしまうことにもなります。
家で洗う時は、浴室に板がぶつからないように、十分注意して洗って下さい。また、フィンの取り外しができるボードの場合は、砂がたまったり、特に金属部分は塩分でさびやすいので、きちんと外して洗いましょう。
洗い終えたら、タオルで水分を拭き取ればお手入れ完了です。ボードは高価なものですので、しっかりお手入れして、サーフィンを楽しみましょう。

海で木の板に乗っている人を見たことがありませんか。この木の板をALAIAと言います。今回は、そのALAIAについてのご紹介です。今から1000年以上前にハワイでは板の上に立つスタンドアップ・サーフィンが行われていたという記述が残っており、その当時使われていたサーフボードの1つがALAIAになります。このサーフボードは、1900年代初めごろまでは使われていましたが、20世紀に入り、ハワイがアメリカのバケーションのメッカとなり、ビーチボーイが誕生して以降、サーフボードは急速に進化しまして、コントロールしやすく、重量が軽いポリエステル製のサーフボードが大量生産されはじめ、木のボードは人々から忘れ去られてしまいましたが、近年アライアに乗る方がかなり増えています。最大の特徴は、コントロール性能を上げるためにつけられているフィンがないことです。フィンはコントロールをよくしますが、スピードの抵抗となります。ALAIAはフィンがない為、スピード感を楽しめるとの事です。ただし、言ってしまえば、ただの木の板で大変乗るのは難しいボードになりますので、簡単には手を出さない方がいいと思いますよ。

5フィンモデルを知っていたでしょうか。残念ながら私は、昨日話を聞いて初めて知り、画期的なものだなと関心していました。そもそも5フィンモデルとは、フィンボックスが５つ付いているボードになります。５つ付いていることで、様々なフィンセッティングが可能となり、最強のセカンドボードと言えます。全てのサイズのボードに設置できますが、やはりベストはスモールウェイブモデルやラウンドノーズモデルだと思います。ツインフィンやトライフィンやクアッドに変更することが可能で、波や気分に合わせて、一枚のボードを持っていくだけで変更できるのです。決して、5フィンだからといって、フィンを5枚付けるという訳ではございません。5枚付けると動きが悪くなるだけで、利点はありません。
